Why Makassar - Toraja?

 

The life of the people of Makassar and Toraja who are skillful seamen is very unique. They are the Bugis people who are also experts in boat making. The Paotere seaport is a traditional seaport, and so is the famous Bugis boat. There are many temples in Makassar, especially on the Sulawesi Road, because many Chinese live in Makassar. Toraja is the most exciting tourist destination in Sulawesi. Traditional villages can be found with vast rice fields, Tongkonan traditional houses with unique architecture and the exciting Toraja culture. One of the most impressive Toraja cultural event is the well-known burial ceremony. Without it, the people of Toraja believe that the spirits of the dead will bring bad luck for their families. The culmination of this ceremony usually takes place in July and August. The People of Toraja Sa'dan or Saqdan are known well by foreign tourists.

Makassar is located in South Sulawesi, and is the capital city.

 

 

ITINERARY

Day 1

 

Makassar - Tanah Toraja (L,D)

 

On arrival at Hasanuddin Makassar Airport in the morning, you will be greeted and taken to Toraja (a trip of about ± 8 hours). Lunch at Pare-pare (about 175 kms from Makassar). Along the way you will find residential areas, life of the Bugis ethnic. After lunch, the journey continues, arrive in Toraja late afternoon /night, check in to the hotel, dinner at local restaurants.

 

Day 2

 

Toraja (B,L,D)

 

After breakfast at the hotel, you will join a tour to Lemo (a graveyard on rock cliff), Ke'te ke'su (ancient village of the King of Ke'te ke'su and his rice storage and grave), then lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Londa (a hanging grave and graves in caves), Marante (a mix of new and hanging graves) and to the River of Sa'dan to buy Tanah Toraja unique souvenirs. In the afternoon, return to the hotel. Dinner at a local restaurant.

 

Day 3

 

Toraja - Makassar (B,L,D)

 

After breakfast, check out and leave for Makassar. Lunch enroute in Pare-pare. Arrival in Makassar i the afternoon. Diner at local restaurant.

 

Day 4

 

Transfer Out (B)

 

After breakfast, free program until time to transfer to Hasanuddin Airport.
